Aspendale Beach
Aspendale beach is a popular locals beach with rail access and some parking for visitors.
Aspendale Beach forms the northern 3 km section of the 7.5 km long beach that stretches between the Patterson River mouth and the Mordialloc breakwater. The Nepean Highway and railway parallel the beach, with the Aspendale railway station being located 200 m east of the Aspendale Life Saving Club. There is limited parking at the club, as it is surrounded by beach-front houses and boat sheds, however a large car park is located 100 m to the south.
The beach faces the south-west and extends from adjoining Edithvale up to the Mordialloc drain, with the Mordialloc Sailing Club located at the northern end.
The beach is exposed to west through south-westerly winds and waves, which have built a sandy beach fronted by three shore parallel bars. At the Mordialloc drain, tidal flows through the drain widen and deepen the channel. In addition, more than 50 wooden groynes have been built across the beach to prevent beach erosion.
Swimming - Best in the patrolled area in front of the lifesaving club. Stay on the shallow section of the inner bar and avoid the deeper rip holes and troughs.
Aspendale beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous).
