Alex Goudie Park Playground, Montague Avenue, Drouin

Nice setting beside a lake with waterbirds. Structure with curved slide, steps, shop front, walkway, fireman's pole, horizontal bridge with half circles, climbing mat wall and ladder with square rungs. Bike springer and swings.
Big shelter with tables and BBQ. Fairly big grassy area next to lake with some slope. Water from a tank.
Alex Goudie
The Alex Goudie Native Park was named in honour of Alex (Alexander) Goudie, a Buln Buln Shire Councillor from 1935 to 1947 and again from 1950 to 1956. He was Shire President three times. Alex was involved in many of the strategic decisions of the Buln Buln Shire and a strong supporter of community organizations and the town's environment. He was described as someone who "got to the heart of things".
Born November 19th 1886 in Yarraville. Second Lieutenant in the AIF, he was badly wounded in action at the Battle of Fromelles July 1916. After discharge and a long period of rehabilitation Alex and his wife Jessie took up farming in Heath Hill. He and his family moved into Drouin in 1938. Alex set up a real estate business in Drouin, caring more about people than sales.
After the 1939 Black Friday bushfires he became an active conservationist and was part of the 'Save the Forests' campaign of the 1940s. He was also a strong supporter of the establishment of a CWA in Drouin. His wife Jessie became the founding president.
Alex suggested the idea of a Native Park in 1955. After his death on May 8th 1956 the Buln Buln Shire agreed to proceed with his vision. Alex and Jessie had five children Lex, Dora, Don, Ken and Murray. He is buried at the Drouin Cemetery.
