Our Mission Statement is 'To provide a range of rowing experiences for existing and new members, and to nurture social cohesion and competitive talent within the Club'.
Rowing is a great sport for anyone who wants to keep fit and enjoy outdoor exercises. You can have fun rowing solo or with a team. Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club offers different courses from beginner to competitive levels:
Learn to Row
Want that feeling of rowing on the scenic Albert Park Lake? You will be on the water during 1st session!
During the 4 x 1.5hr Sunday sessions you will learn to row in a relaxed atmosphere. You will learn to apply the fundamentals of rowing technique both on land and water, as well as understanding boat handling and rowing terminology. Rowing is awesome low-impact-full-body fitness!
Following the L2R course, you will be able to decide if you want to continue rowing as either a Recreational or Competitive rower. Our course is 80% practical and 20% theory! The L2R course consists of:
4 x Sunday Sessions (consecutive Sundays)
1.5 hours per session
Start time 10am
Development Squad
The Development Squad at APSMRC provides amateur rowers with the opportunity to develop their skills through coached crew sessions.
DEV Squad is geared towards those who are returning to row after a period of time away from the sport, or coming directly out of the Learn To Row programmes.
Our aim is to provide a continuous learning environment where the focus is on improvement of skill and confidence in the boat.
Members can choose to row recreationally or look towards competing in regattas.
Coaching is conducted in crews of up to 8 people, emphasising the importance of teamwork, commitment and the enjoyment that comes with rowing as a crew.
Competitive Squad
APSMRC competitive squads are made up of rowers who are interested in competing in regattas. Crews are organised and put together by our coaches based on skill and commitment to training times. Crews can also be formed by choice or self selection.
Club coaching is provided for the regular squad training times outlined below. Additional coaching can also be arranged by private arrangement.
Social Rowing
Recreational / Social rowing is very much part of the APSMRC club culture.
We encourage members to enjoy the rowing experience of their choice and at a time that suits them.
