Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve Playground, Wedge Road, Carrum Downs
As you approach the gold and brown play structure perched on a mound from the car park, it draws you in and the excitement level increases - especially if you are a Hawthorn supporter.
The main play structure has three elevated nests joined together - use steps to get to the first one, then cross a thick rope traverse to get to the second one and finally cross through a rope tunnel to the third nest where a curved tunnel slide awaits. The slide can also be reached more directly by a trickier rope ladder or vertical rope tunnel.
On the side of the mound are two water pumps to produce a stream of water which flows down past sluice gates into the sandpit below which has two diggers and a little play structure for younger kids with ladders, slide and sand play equipment.
Further along is a very wide metal slide under a shade sail which kids love to slide down in all sorts of orientations, dual flying foxes with seats and four swings (under shade sails).
Centrally located is a shelter with table and BBQ plus two unshaded tables and a water tap. To finish off the fun there are two in-ground trampolines and a big birds nest under shade sails.
In 2023 a new car park close to playground will be built and also toilets. In the meantime there are toilets about 150m away at the soccer pavilion.
